My GLToyJS project now has a live instance so you can play with it without setting up your own server. Caveats: • I don't promise it will remain at this URL or that the parameter format won't change. • There is an automatic 5-minute-interval change to a new random effect which cannot be disabled (but you can undo it by going back). • It doesn't tell you if your browser doesn't have WebGL, it just stops (gray screen).

Am I doing something wrong? I've an ubuntu; tried it in fox, in chrome. In chrome the imagery is kind of bland, and there's no choice except random. In fox I see menus, but the |> button does not seem to produce any effects, black screen. There were some nice rings in the beginning, but they disappeared.

If there is no choice except “Random”, then the JS must have failed to load properly. Or do you really mean you're getting some animation but no menu options? If so, then that's an odd bug and I'd like to see what your web console shows (Chrome: Tools → JavaScript Console; Firefox: Tools → Web Developer → Web Console (not Error Console)).

The ▶ button just sets the time-rate to 1, which is already the default (whereas the ❚❚ button sets it to zero).

All that said, the whole point of GLToy is that it is randomized, and so it is quite possible that it produces a black screen that's “supposed” to be black. If it's working properly, hitting the spacebar should cause something else to appear.

(Yes, there ought to be some built-in documentation of all this.)
