I am right this minute packing my luggage and reviewing plans. I will be getting on the train tonight at 8 PM Eastern, and traveling until 9 PM Pacific on Sunday, May 30.
I will probably not have Internet access for most or all of the trip.
Verizon as an option...
Date: 2010-06-07 12:57 (UTC)No Android Worldphone as yet, but the HTC Touch Pro 2 is a decent option if you can deal with Windows Mobile. HTC manages to hide most of the Windows Mobile UI gotchas, and the hardware and OS is actually pretty solid.
If you can hang on, Worldmode Android devices are certainly on the way. CDMA support has only just been added to the Android RIL (Radio Interface), so it will likely be a few months, but the Qualcomm MSM8650 used in the Droid Incredible is capable of UMTS operation (the same device is used in the HD2), so a revised Worldmode capable device is almost inevitable in a few months.
I'd have to concur with others that Verizon coverage seems to be far better than the UMTS options in the United States, once you get out of city centres.
